2020 Jerusalem Marathon

in memory of Ezra Schwartz

Sophie Ana Paris Newton, United States · Amit

Runner’s Statement I am so excited to finally get to run a 10K in the Jerusalem marathon this year to raise money for Hope Time Cure and support the amazing cause. After my good friend, Elan Galler, was diagnosed with epilepsy, his family realized the need to educate and raise awareness for it, reduce the stigma against it, and support people who suffer from it. His siblings created Hope Time Cure to do just that.
I became friends with Elan in high school by attending many Yachad events together. He was the Maimo Softball team’s biggest fan and came to every game to cheer on his sister along with the rest of us. Elan’s silly, funny, and positive personality always put a smile on my face. After years of Elan cheering my team and I on at every softball game, I am looking forward to running alongside him and cheer him on as well.
I am also running in memory of Ezra Schwartz z”l, a huge part of both my Maimo and Yavneh communities, who was murdered by a terrorist during his gap year in Israel.
